Default MS HELP pop up every time sending email; stop it how?

This might or might not be an Outlook Express problem, but I don't know
because I only use email and no other program.

Every time I send just one email, the MS Help thing for Outlook Express pops
up and I have to close it. I have disabled the general Help thing that opens
when you press the F1 key, but I still get this Help pop up for OE. I've
turned off the help thing in services.msc too.

It's not a spyware problem and I have Norton Antivirus on the comp. So any
other ideas or suggestions?

thanks!

How do you *know* it is not a spyware/malware issue (Norton won't clear you
of everything)?

What is your exact Operating System (OS), edition (Home, Professional, Media
Center, etc) and version/service pack level?

Start button -- RUN
(no "RUN"? Press the "Windows Key" + R on your keyboard)
-- type in:
winver
-- Click OK.

The picture at the top of the window that opens will give you the general
(Operating System name) while the line starting with the word "version"
will give you the rest of the story. Post _both_ in response to this
message verbatim. ;-)

How are you sending mail - can you detail out the
steps/keystrokes/mouseclicks that you use?

You also use OE for news. wink

You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it.
If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old
identity and delete it.

Note: Do not use the word Main in the name of the new identity.

Crosspost much?

When does your NAV subscription expire (assuming it hasn't expired already)?

Four points:

1. How do you know it's not a spyware problem? Norton AntiVirus is an
anti-virus program, not an anti-spyware program.

2. In my view, and that of many of us here, NAV is the single *worst*
anti-virus program available. I recommend replacing it with NOD32, if
you are willing to pay for one, or Avira or Avast, if you want a
freeware one. I also recommend running both of the two best
anti-spyware programs: MalwareBytes AntiMalware and SuperAntiSPyare.

3. Despite the above, it doesn't sound like a virus or spyware
problem.

4. You've crossposted to a bunch of newsgroups. I'm answering in a
Windows XP one. I don't use Outlook Express, and can't help with
problems with it.

So which would you rather they do, cross-post or multi-post? I don't
get it, you guys complain about someone who posts a message in several
newsgroups (multi-post) and tell them they need to cross-post. Yet when
someone does cross-post as they should, you guys crawl all over him
about that! Although they did forget to set a followup flag to direct
all the replies to a specific newsgroup (which I have done) they at
least got their question out to several newsgroups in the proper manner.

What help is the MS Help thing offering?

If I run OE and press F1 I get:

Hey Bruce...thanks alot for being the only one not wasting my time. I've
copied and pasted your response below in case any one else has a similar
problem and needs real help.

Creating a new identity--although it worked--was just a work around though.
The original problem is indeed gone, but the Main identity is still there. I
think you said I can delete it...but most novices aren't going to know how
to do that. I went into the relevant MS Identities folder and deleted it,
but you ought to reply telling others exactly how to do it so they will have
a 100% solution to the problem. Hopefully no one other than you will reply
though and further ruin the thread

To all you other clowns who hijacked my thread for your own stupid and
immature newsgroup "police" reasons, you're on my OE filter list..another
great thing about OE
