Bought a new laptop and accidentally selected French as the OS language
instead of English. Je ne parle pas francais! That's it for my French -
except for counting to neuf. Running XP Home. I called MS they told me to
call Acer. Acer told me to do a system restore (no files created yet so
there is no concern with data loss.) I did that and la voila (I guess I do a
know little more French!) still in French! How do I change this to English?

Unfortunately you can not. You could try asking the vendor who sold
you the laptop to provide an English version, but if they refuse, the
only way to get English is to buy an English version and replace your
French version with it.

You buy a PC featuring the language version you require.
Are you in Canada?

You cannot upgrade or convert from one language version of the OS
to another, so you'll have to purchase and use the full version of WinXP
(in whatever language you want) to perform a clean installation.

The problem is you originally installed in French.....all subsequent
restores will
be in French. The Acer instructions even tell you that.
I am willing to bet that when you did the system restore French was ticked
as the language
of choice and you couldn't change it if you tried.

maybe if you phone Acer again and ask real nice they will send you an actual
restore
CD which wont care what language was there originally.
I just did an Acer restore from Vista to original XP and I noticed English
was ticked
and I could not change it.
