HELP: XP PRO Logs in and then Logs back Out again
I'm having a problem with XP Pro:
I get to the log in screen, enter my password, it says it's loading my settings, i see my wallpaper for about 4 seconds and then it goes back to the log in screen and it says it's closing connections and I end up with the log in screen again. Then if I log back in it repeats itself. This happens in all safe modes, if I log in as admin, and if I used last working configuration. I can expore the disk using repair console or a bartPE disk I have and all the directories and files seem to be intact. I have been told to run SFC /scannow or chkdsk /f but I can't get them to run from the command prompt. Maybe I'm not in the right directory to get them to run. If I run chkdsk, it says the volume is locked, I say it's ok to run at next boot, but at next boot it doesn't run. This all started when I ran MSDSC.exe by mistake. I deleted it from the system before I shut it down right before this happened. I've thought about reinstalling XP but I was wondering if I would have to reinstall all my software. Thanks for any reading and any help. What you need to do is take your XP cd and boot to the repair console then run chkdsk /r It should then repair any possible file system corruption |

HELP: XP PRO Logs in and then Logs back Out again
In reply to "philo"
Sorry about the confusion, I tried to run Chkdsk using the bartPE disk and not from the recovery console, got too focused on using that disk and not using recovery console with chkdsk. After taking your advice and running chkdsk /r from recovery console I restarted the machine and no change, returns me back to the login screen. Thank you for the advice, any other suggestions are appreciated.
