Default SP2 upgrade 'access denied' message

I've installed Sp2 on 2 of my 3 (XP Home) machines with no problem
whatsoever! But the 3rd.... 'Access denied' message and then automatic
removal of the upgraded bits so far.

Three times now!

I've checked for network drives (none), checked the permissions in the
registry as suggested in the M/Soft knowledge base.

No luck at all.

Any one got any more clues for me?

Scan for malware. It can screw-up a install.
Clean out all temp folders and windows update folder.
Download full install of SP2. Install in safe-mode.

Thanks Max. The malware isn't a problem but I hadn't thought of installing
in safe mode. Will give it a bash.

Cheers
