alt.comp.os.windows-8 is available for any of you playing with the preview
version, although I don't see any posts yet.

Probably because nobody has figured out how to post with Windows 8.

I now see one post, but he used Windows Mail, indicating that it was most
likely done from a Vista machine :-)

Hi, KCB - and Crash.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I've been trying the Win8 CP here on my only computer, this Win7 x64 desktop
that I put together a year ago. While Win8 has no native NNTP capability,
it will run Windows Live Mail, so I downloaded and installed all the Windows
Live Essentials. I've used that from Win8 to read this and the few
remaining newsgroups that I follow on my ISP's news server. (Grande
Communications, based here in San Marcos, TX, still carries over 100,000
NGs, including a few thousand of the not-quite-defunct microsoft.public.*
NGs that Microsoft abandoned last year.)

I'm running Win7 at the moment, but I'll try to reboot into Win8 later today
and post at least one message to this thread. And subscribe to the new
alt.comp.os.windows-8 NG. Watch my Sig for the Win8 tag.

Thanks again. See you there...

He's using Win Mail 'cause he ported the Vista Win Mail to Win 7. He
also has Win 8 Preview up and running. I know, 'cause I'm Him!

Hi, again, KCB - and Crash.

Hello again - this time from WLM 2011 in Win8 CP x64! ;)

But I can't find alt.comp.os.windows-8 in my list of Newsgroups, even after
Reset List. Maybe my news server hasn't reset its list? I think Grande
uses Giganews. Which NNTP service are you using?

Here, I see it on AIOE and on Eternal-September. And I had
to refresh the newsgroup list to find it.

Don't expect it to propagate everywhere.

And especially, don't expect Google to archive it. If Google
won't archive this group, it's not going to archive anything
else new either.

I'm using eternal-September, and it showed up this morning.

RC.
Using news.eternal-september.org with WLM11.
Like KCB noted....early this morning, WLM prompted that new newsgroups were avaialble (on both pcs Win7/Win8CP). I subscribed to
alt.comp.os.windows-8 but have yet to read any of the few posts.

Hi, Winston.

I subscribed to ES a year or so ago, but not for long. Not that there's
anything wrong with it; I just didn't need it because it mostly duplicated
my Grande newsfeed. Maybe Grande/Giganews will pick up the new NG in a day
or two. I might have to call them; they are based right here in San Marcos.

On a slightly different subject, I just asked you in DTS for the Annex Café
password. It was easy to use an IAF file to transfer the settings from Win7
to Win8 - but the password is encrypted and I can't remember what you told
me a couple of years ago.

San Marcos in foreign country (Texas) or San Marcos on alien planet
(California?)

I have a relative who lives in the latter, I'll be visiting there next
week. I hope the weather clears up by then....

Hi, XS11E.

Both San Marcoses are very nice towns. We visited the West Coast one many
times when we lived in San Bernardino. But we've lived here in Texas since
1990. Check my Sig. ;^}

It's on news.individual.net now, too. I started using that a couple
of years ago - costs about 10UK per year, but is well filtered, so
not much spam gets through.

Just put the request in for Giganews to carry it.

I've never been in Texas except for passing through on my way east but
I do visit San Marcos, CA on occasion. It's a pretty drive over (I go
through the mountains from Indio to Temecula) but I'm getting too old
to do it much more, driving isn't as fun as it was 60 years ago.....
