OT MS -Word 2010 ? OT

Could not find an active group for MS Word


Dues to the shut-in, I can finally get to the project of OCRing 4000+
pages of typewritten work using the version of ABBYY Fine Reader that
came bundled with my Epson scanner.

It works quite well and I only have one annoyance.


When scanning to "Word" there are often page breaks and formatting
discrepancies. Although "Word" has a "clear formatting" button, it does
not remove everything and I have to correct the document one item at a time.


I find that it's much easier to simply cut and paste the entire contents
into Notepad, then back into "Word" again.


Surely there must be some EASY way to get "Word" to convert the document
to nothing but pure text.

Not exactly what you want, but better than cut and paste == Do a
"Save as" and select "Plain Text" as the output instead of the default
docx. Then load the txt file back in and re-save it as a docx file.

the simplest way to convert a Word DOC or DOCX to TXT is do a save as and
select text.

the simplest way to get rid of unwanted formatting is to hit control-A to
select the entire document, then apply a nice simple style like ‘Normal’
or ‘No Space’. Getting rid of excess paragraph marks and page breaks and
such requires using Word advance search and replace (control-H); you can
search for paragraph marks, various breaks including page and column, and a
lot more and then hit one button to kill them.

Word advanced search and replace is one of the most powerful features in
Word, I use it a lot to clean documents up. Warning: used improperly it can
screw up your document beyond belief and beyond easy repair, so use it on a
copy of the file until you get used to wielding Absolute Power(tm).

About the only thing that advanced search and replace doesn’t fix easily is
tables, they’re special cases and can be a pain,

Thank you. Since I am not doing any more than four pages at a time, I
will not have to perform an exhaustive search.


I think my biggest problem was that I neglected to hit control-A before
I took the option to remove formatting.


What i did just now:



To my right and slightly to my rear are the unmatched pair of
socks I shall wear this evening. They are both white, only the colored
stripes on top and the lengths are different. I am otherwise dressed;
the shower oddly enough washed away the dampness of my spirit. I am now
clean. My dejectedness has been washed down the drain with the dirt.
The notes to the poem I was thinking about last night still lie
beside my bed. They are unnecessary yet I know not whether to tell a
story or a poem. I have been seeing old friends as of late, now visible
again as having been submerged in either marriage or divorce.
