Installation Error

Hi,

When I try to install Macromedia Flash MX 2004 on my computer, I get to the
install screen with the progress bar, and it stays on 0%. I have waited and
waited but still nothing. When I exit the installation, it can take up to 10
minutes to close, and at the end comes up with an error saying:

"An error occured while launching the setup. The remote procedure call
failed."

Also, I got the same error trying to install a game (Myth 3) earlier today.

What is up with that?

Please reply when you can, as it is very annoying not being able to install
things on my computer

Do you have either of the two RPC services disabled?

Hit enter
Scroll and find the RPC services.

The first one should be started and set to automatic.
The second one (the locator) should be set to manual.

The first one should be running at all times. The second should run only
when something needs it.

If they are set that way and you still have this problem then instead of
typing services.msc like you did above type "eventvwr.msc" without the
quotes again and look to see if there are any errors with the RPC service
listed. If there are then Google the Event ID # and you should get a hit to
tell you what steps to take next.

Both services are there, like you described.



If they are set that way and you still have this problem then instead of
typing services.msc like you did above type "eventvwr.msc" without the
quotes again and look to see if there are any errors with the RPC service
listed. If there are then Google the Event ID # and you should get a hit to
tell you what steps to take next.

And this, how exactly do I use it? I have no idea what section etc. the
errors should be in etc., could you possibly be more specific please?

Under the system tab, look for yellow flags that have to do with RPC
service. I was able to install Flash MX 2004 on this system (I had to
install it anyhow) without a problem so it's not a typical system problem.
Do you have any security software running while you're installing? Are you
99.9% sure your system is free from malware? (You can NEVER be 100% sure.)

There are no flags to do with RPC. I tried turning off all firewalls +
virus-checkers, nothing though. And yes I am, I ran an Ad-Aware check last
night.

I'm glad that you got it installed but it's odd that you'd have to do so
while in safe mode. The implications there are that you have something
running that was preventing you from installing the game which wasn't loaded
in safe mode. Makes me wonder what it was.
