Getting Out Of Dialogs That Have No Exit Button?
I'm running 8.1 as a Windows Desktop user. i.e. When I see Metro, I've
done something wrong and I immediately click the "Desktop" tile I have set up for that eventuality. But every so often I find myself trapped in a full-screen dialog that has no "Exit" button, no "Close" button, no sizable border, no "Minimize" button... no nothing. Either you do what the dialog wants you to do or you're stuck. Last time it happened, I was trying to play a video and had neglected to specify my own video player as default for the vid type. Windows 8 played the vid for a couple seconds and then decided that I needed to install a more recent version of it's video player. "Poof!"... all-white screen with no way out except "Install....". Well, not really stuck.... what I do now is press Ctl-Alt-Delete to bring up TaskMan, which also gets me back to the desktop. But a dialog with no way out just sounds *wrong*.... so I figure there's something that I don't know vis-a-vis how to get out of such a dialog without resorting to the three-finger salute. Some gesture, maybe? ?? -- Pete Cresswell |

With new update roll up to the top, bar drops down, there's an X in right corner to close. Windows+D goes to the desktop The Windows 8.1.1 update provides a new toolbar at the top when you move your cursor up there that now includes an "X" for close. Course these are supposed to work, but there can always be an exception to the rules! |
