Have you ever actually used Linux ?
[]'s

Yes, I purchased RedHat with 1 year phone support. It lasted about 6
months before it barfed and wouldn't boot.

Linux ****ed up? YOU'RE A FILTHY LIAR!! Seriously though, I'm not even
slightly surprised.

It was working pretty good, till one day it just failed to boot... it
just sat there frozen in its tracks. (???)

Typical Linux garbage.

I would still trust a commercial operating system a lot more than one
built by a bunch of unemployed fat guys with a complete lack of social
skills and poor hygiene. From a privacy perspective, I trust the stinky
fat guy a lot more than I do a commercial enterprise, but I'm not sure
that I should: an open-sore project where no one is willing to take
credit for the garbage is less likely to be sued than a corporation
which stands by its product if ever humongous security problems arise.

Oracle has improved it a bunch. Lets face it, there isn't any os secure
enough to guarantee privacy. The rest of the linux loons are still in
denial and will be for a very long time.

Off the beaten path, I found a site that is rather unique.
www.whatdoesitmean.com

Seems to explain things a bit better in the realm of geopolitics.
You might find it highly revealing.

I'll probably take a look at it. I'm not the most proficient in all
things political but I know my way around either way.

So that's Microsoft's attempt at marketing a FREE operating system (for
now), which really is NOT free because of the adware and spyware
embedded in it.

I haven't run into a problem with that yet. I deleted the free games I
downloaded from their store because the UI really stinks. No way to
restart the game, no way to go back to starting defaults, etc.

I haven't deleted any games yet, but yeah, I noticed that too. A little
irritating huh?

I used to play the online versions of Backgammon and Checkers sometimes...
but those are gone unless I want to tie into their store. Not worth it to
me. Maybe at some point I will.

It is cool the way an installing app also shows up as an icon in the
start menu list with a progress bar under it.

You may have noticed if you did an upgrade that some apps had to be re-
downloaded and had a little down-arrow icon in their tile too.

Sounds similar to OS X and iOS. I assume Android does something similar,
too.

THAT and it stinks on ice because of the 2D look [instead of XP and 7's
3D skeumorphic look],

It's funny how all the trolls who call Linux desktops "ugly" have been
silent about that.

the "start thing" with its alphabetized 'all apps(sic)' list,

Yes, it's a pain when you look for "Thunderbird" under "t" and it's not
there, and you have to remember "MOZILLA Thunderbird," and look under
"m." Lots of cases like that.

Yep, sure are. But once I took some time to move some things to the
'start tiles' and the taskbar I seldom go there any more.

Or just do a search for Thunderbird and it shows right up. I did turn off
the news and other things that show up when you just click search.

"the METRO" in general, FORCED updates for home users, yotta yotta.

Being secure, or at least the Windows definition of "secure," means
having automatic updates always enabled.

The only problem is that sometimes MS screws up a update which can cause
real issues. Overall I've not had the issue and even had auto updates on
in W8/W8.1 too.

I have had them on for years with no significant complaints.

point being, FREE isn't the issue here. USABILITY and SUPPORT are.

And existing companies like RH *could* take advantage of that.

Indeed.

I can't fault the 'desktop mode' much. It works just fine for me.

Mostly agree though I do not like the tiles in the Start menu. If you want
to add a lot of programs easier to have it as a list. They should have that
at least as an option (maybe they do - have only looked briefly).

I'm not at all enamored of the 'tablet mode' though. Just too damned half-
assed to be really useful. And I'm one that really liked the 'Modern UI' on
my laptops/hybrids.

I have noted some areas where I think it can be improved, but overall I
think it seems OK. Then again I am using it on a desktop (and in a VM at
that) and not on an actual tablet. That could make a difference in how one
sees it!

Wifi is still twitchy as hell. Fixed for awhile, then an update which
makes it twitchy again, followed by one to fix it ad nauseum!

Is this common or specific to your hardware?

Fairly common from what I read. And it has shown up on a Yoga 2 Pro,
SurfacePro2 and HP AIO desktop at times. Not always the same time
though. Every time I have the issue non-Windows boxes don't have a
problem.

Yes, you know that you are confused, "mike".

Why aren't you off building your little communist utopia for mental
midgets like yourself, "mike"?

Maybe if you actually read what you were objecting to, there'd be
less confusion.
Announcing that you didn't read it is consistent with closed-minded
linux defenders of the chaos.

So what are you going to do about it, Mike? How are you going to put
the Genie back into the bottle?

Well, that is the issue isn't it.

Yes, how do you get people to surrender their freedom once it has been
granted?

I think of Genie as a benevolent creature who grants your wishes.

That's because your thinking is based on American TV's "I Dream of
Jeannie." The reality is the Jen are demons bound to vessels by the
Keys of Solomon, and their "job" is to torment their "masters."

This is more like a parasite that sucks the life out of the victim,

Giving you free software is like a parasite?

but leaves it 1.5% alive so it can continue to suck the life out.

I see you're trying to tie your analogy to desktop share, but that
doesn't make it sensible, or even coherent.

There oughta be a mythological creature that would make a better
mascot.

The world awaits your creation.

Frankly, I don't think there is a magic genie who will come along
and fix it. Once the fervor over privacy dies down and joe average
goes back into complacency mode, desktop linux will have missed possibly
its last chance to take a bite outa M$ on the desktop.

You seem to think you have all the answers. Where's your distro that
does all the things you want?

It's good to have a hobby for when I'm bored. It's a great hobby,
and it's free as in beer.

The US Navy thinks it's such a great "hobby" they run their ships with it.

I shall keep advocating for success of desktop linux and use it
where it makes sense. It's a thankless
job, but somebody's gotta do it. I'm not seeing anybody else with a
plan. Apathy is not a plan.

****ing and moaning isn't a job.

Being an abjectly stupid troll like that "mike" idiot isn't either. Not
every troll has a family to suck the money out like that Snit Glasser swine
