Default O.T. Prepaid/disposable cell phones

I have a in the wall old fashioned line phone.
I think I may be the only one left *L*

I'm thinking about getting a cheap disposable
cell phone:

https://www.walmart.com/browse/cell-...542371_133261/

I'm not looking to make this my primary but just
to play around with it and see what they're like.

My question is do I have to pay Verizon or whoever
for additional services or are they already covered
in a pre-paid cell phone and how long does that last?
Will these give text msg's?

I don't want to pay allot as I don't have allot to
spend but any suggestions?

Thanks,
Robert

I can't speak for the US, but here in UK: no, once you've bought the
'phone with accompanying SIM/contract, you're ready to go, once it's
charged. (Sometimes you may need to do something to activate it, but
that doesn't involve extra money.)

The cheapest ones (here at least) are usually "locked" to one provider,
i. e. won't work with any other network. (There are plenty of
places/people who will "unlock" most of them, but if you're really going
for the cheapest, their fee will be similar to the cost of the 'phone.)

Here, a PAYG (pay as you go) SIM will usually last indefinitely - I
don't mean it's free, but any credit you put on it will not expire. You
usually have to make at least one call every month or three months, but
that's to keep the _number_ valid. The credit is for so many
minutes/texts (usually so many pence per minute, so many per text).

I don't _think_ any new model of fobile moan on the market today won't
be able to do texts.

PAYG is (here anyway) usually the most expensive way to buy 'phone
credit, but only if you'd use it a fair amount anyway: if you would,
monthly contracts are cheaper. But they do expire. One of our providers
here has recently started advertising that any you don't use rolls over
for ever, but I suspect (CBA to report them to the advertising authority
over it) that only applies as long as you continue to pay the monthly,
whether you're using it or not.

If you are near a Target store then go there and ask all the questions
you want.

They have many phone company choices and some very good phones for way
under $100.

I got one that uses Verizon and uses pre-pay cards.
It is a Samsung J3 Mission smart phone. more features that i can
understand. Payed $80.00

It worked so well for me that I signed up for auto-pay using a credit
card and it is all flawless.

Ouch, $80! I'm sure I could get a 'phone - OK, one with buttons on, not
a "smart" (i. e. glass keyboard) one here, _with_ initial PAYG SIM
fitted, for 15 to 20 pounds. I think I've even sometimes seen them for
10 pounds in one of the supermarkets.
