https://helpx.adobe.com/au/creative-cloud/faq.html

"Annual members can use the apps for up to 99 days in offline mode.
Month-to-month members can use the software for up to 30 days in offline
mode."

Maybe you could bother to do a quick search before
telling me I'm wrong?
Yes, you can use it offline, but
there are limits. It's rental software. There's no way
around that. If there were it wouldn't be rental, right?
If it wasn't spyware that needed to call home then
why would people keep paying the fee?

As with Windows Product Activation they try to make
it as unobtrusive as possible. Then people like you say,
"Look, it's not so bad!" But it still ends up the same.
In the final analysis, you can't move your OEM Windows,
despite having paid for a license, and you can't buy a
full license for Adobe CS.

I think we're all talking about CC, but I realize now
that I was using the wrong name with CS.

CS2 was an interesting case. They posted it online
with working keys and the license terms required
only that the software had to be obtained from Adobe.
Check. Then when the download became popular they
changed the webpage, saying the key was only legal
for people who had already bought the product. I
guess they underestimated how many people would
be happy to have a slightly old version for free.

| Sometime, carefully read the T&C for MS programs. You don't own Windows.
| You buy permission to use it...

Do you *want* to be a sucker? You license
the product, yes. Microsoft themselves say
it's copyrighted, intellectual property. Like
a book. You have a right to do anything with a
book except make copies. Do you know about the
first sale doctrine? Once you buy a book you
can do as you like, including reselling it. Microsoft
are getting around that because they simply
have a lot of money, lobbyists and congressmen
-- and the medium is new, so details haven't
been hashed out yet.

(When I was growing up, the phone company
owned all the phones, we rented them, and we
had to pay to use extras. Only breaking up Bell
Telephone stopped that scam.)

A novel doesn't belong to the author. Only
the content does. Likewise, Microsoft have no
right to access your computer just because
you license their software. But that's where
rental comes in. Rental gives them an excuse
to collect saleable data and to charge you
repeatedly. Combined with the marketing of
automatic updates it allows them to redefine
the territory, making it normal for them to be
hosting you on your own computer, calling home
regularly, and collecting personal data. That
provides a way for them to train people into
not thinking they own their computer.

Is the data encrypted by MSFT so that you can only view it with
their permission? If not there's no problem.

Surely this is the same situation as in 1983 or so? Why is it so
hard to understand? MSFT make it clear that Windows users fall into
two categories, OEM and retail. If you're an OEM you sell a package
that is hardware plus the necessary software to do tasks. The two
are linked to make a package, and are hard to separate. If you are a
'retail' user buy the appropriate license and take it with you if
you change machines.

I agree with that last sentence above, but you should be aware that
many people choose to buy an OEM version because it's less expensive
than the retail one, and because they don't realize its disadvantage.

Yes, buyer beware applies here as it does in many retail situations.

The buyer should permanently get what they pay for and not have it

I think your view of the world is outdated. You are very old and I
suggest you should retire gracefully and forget about computers.

Software prices are coming down so they have become disposable items.
You use it for some time according to the license and then throw it away
and buy a new license. It's called subscription.

You apply for a membership of the club and you need to continue renewing
it annually. You pass professional exams like Solicitors or
Accountants and you need to keep paying subscriptions yearly to continue
calling yourself Accountant or Solicitor/Lawyer.

Windows 10 is a service. Office 365 is a service. Windows 365 coming
soon near you. Watch the space.

Regular updates is a service. The product was working when you bought
but hackers managed to hack it so it needs to be fixed. So Microsoft
provides a service.

Software isn't your car or a computer. Software is an "Intellectual
property" which needs to be updated regularly dynamically as technology
improves.
