Greetings --
Actually, this advice applies to _any_ operating system, not just Windows-=based platforms. Bruce Chambers -- Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don't ever count on having both at once. -- RAH "Tracker" wrote in message ... If your computer is a on a Windows Platform you need to disable the Services that Windows leaves opens, for starters. Most home users aren't using a Virtual Private Network, Mail Server, FTP Server, TCP Server and so on. You also need to install a Firewall, whether it be software or hardware oriented ONLY before you put your computer on the Internet. Trojan Horses disable anti-virus and firewalls. An anti-virus application will secure your computer to "some" degree, but NOT unless you can secure your e-mail, browser and internet settings and applications. Without the above security, the malicious hackers are already abusing your computers to take down Networks, Servers, trade drugs, guns, bo*bs, and so on. This is only a small list of areas which deal with security, malware, backdoors, trojan horses and more. Tracker |

Sorry 'bout steeling your line, but, it's been around our house since I was a moving doorstop. big grin Merciful heavens, please don't expose mere civilized humans to such stuff this far from Halloween. I've not seen it (thank goodness), but, from what I've heard, even Medusa won't dare look at it! ;-))) Jan |

... N. Miller wrote: In article , says... snip I was just pointing out that your label of troll is highly subjective. Tracker is not a Troll in the same sense as somebody who knows that they are Trolling; but her posts tend to have the same effect as if she was an intentional Troll. Thank you. That is a very reasonable explanation. I don't put much stock when someone calls someone something without a reasonable explanation as to why. I did notice some dubious info in Tracker's OP, but I did seem to me that his/her/it's heart was in the right place with this post. What "scaremongering?" I saw nothing nothing in the OP that fit's that description. That was actually one of her saner posts. When she starts telling people what steps to take to find malware, she can be downright dangerous. I see. That explains a lot. Thanks again for taking the time to explain you opinion about Tracker. Heh....you should see some of the junk she posts in the alt.comp.anti-virus ng, and others. And the threads are even longer than this, and the folks even get hostile with each other arguing over who's right about how and where she is wrong, or which of them is right or wrong. Go figger! Now there is a good case for a Moderator if I ever saw one. ;-))) In truth, the reason, I think, that most folks get upset her is that for people who are not computer savvy, or have language problems, the stuff she posts is generally so far off the mark it can be very harmful if they follow/use them. XP never goes "belly up" unless it's used by somebody who doesn't really
know a computer is for ! ...and that same person is usually a paper oriented small to medium business person, who thinks that because they've spent £1500 on a PC package, it's going to miraculously take over all their paperwork simply by switching it on !!!!!! regards, Richard "kurttrail" wrote in message ...
