Default Is there any reason to wait for SP2?

I only have one Win XP Home (SP1) machine, and on
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
it says,
" DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A
smaller, more appropriate download will be available soon on Windows
Update...".

But, with all this talk, I don't want to wait for SP2. I can stand
giving up some disk space, but what does MS mean by "more appropriate"?

In other words, can I just install the SP2 MS provides for " IT
Professionals and Developers"?

Do it anyway.

Less Inet load on their servers.

Do it.

MS is trying to scare the average computer user into turning on Auto Update.
And just reading this group shows that Auto Update just confuses the
downloading process of SP2.

Yes.

Nehmo,

I downloaded the file you pointed to and have installed it on two home PCs
running XP Home with no problems.

So, "yes," you can install that file even though it supposedly only for IT
professionals.

I doubt you need to disable anything to download the update file. However,
you might want to check out these links:

Some programs seem to stop working after you install Windows XP Service Pack

No, but do disable them when you actually install SP2. Also, if you are
running a virtual CD/DVD drive, like Nero ImageDrive, uninstall that before
running SP2.

And make sure you back up everything, beforehand too.
