Why is Microsoft wasting time on this junk OS
Yep, it's all about drivers, and applications users are used to.
Windows isn't going anywhere. Android is an ultraport operating system, not a desktop operating system. I was rooting for the breakup of Microsoft, in ~1998. In hindsight, the decision was correct (unless they just lucked out). I recall them mentioning ultraport devices. As it turned out, ultraports flourished, so Microsoft does not control every type of personal computer. Now that decision seems justified, no problem now. |

Paul Good Guy is a W/10 shill and he doesn't realize most big server farms run Linux. Not only that, seeing '5nines' (in https://build5nines.com/...) in a *Windows* thread is quite funny. |

Apple Monopoly? Was: Why is Microsoft wasting time on this junk OS

There seems to be a lot of discussion recently over Apple's 30%-take from the sale of every app built for an Apple device (which are apparently necessarily purchased through Apple's "App Store"). Many developers claim "monopoly". I am not a developer but from what I have seen and heard, I tend to side with them. |

That's a reasonable point, but at least the 30% was "spread around". The developers claim Apple is monopolistic in the way it works with them, and that they have few other options "on the i-phone platform". Maybe we should, judicially, treat the i-phone platform like the railroads? Disclaimer: I have never bought an i-anything, but I know people who seem addicted to such devices. Me, I read newsgroups through Usenet : ) |

Turns out you can't buy an ebook from inside the Windows Kindle app. It sends you to a browser too. I lied (memory failure). But I can't find out why. Probably same as Apple... |
