Default Installing DVD Burner in Desktop?

I have a CD RW24-10-40 in my desktop and want to install a DVD Burner 2 slots
down from this. Do I use the same grey cable thats hooked to the CD Player to
hook up to my DVD Burner? There are wires on the left side of the CD Player
that I believe are hooked up to the sound system to hear my CDs. Do I
disconect these and put them on my DVD Burner?? How should I connect the
jumper on both CD player an DVD Burner. Ihave the Nero Software to put in
after Im done. Thanks for everyones patience with my lack of PC knowledge an
questions, Im learning. All have a safe an great day.

You can use the same grey cable, the only thing you will want to make sure is
that the 2nd drive is set as a slave drive. There are little jumpers on the
back of the drive to do this. You can let the audio cable connected to your
orginal drive or move it to the new. It's just a matter of which drive you
prefer to listen to CD's on. This really should be all the difficult things,
after that the system should see the new drive.

Sure JJ, if it suits you, thats the way I happen to have my burners setup,
ie.. The cable will reach, may make it easer to connect too..

that I believe are hooked up to the sound system to hear my CDs. Do I

If your computer has a sound card and the CD drive has a connector (jack)
for headphones, you might want to leave it or reconnect it to the CD drive,
after it's been moved.. The new optical drive may not need it unless the new
drive has a headphone connector too, realy it's your call.

Review (step7) link above..

How should I connect the
jumper on both CD player an DVD Burner.

See (step3) While you have the CD drive out, eye ball it's jumper
configuration, if it is set to master (M) set the new drive to the slave (S)
position, if the CD drive is set to cable select (CS) set the new drive to
the (CS) position, this may vary as stated in (step3) the above link.. The
master & slave setup seems to be the most foolproof method, read over step3 &
step5, hey read em all, dude..

Ihave the Nero Software to put in
after Im done.

Hopefully, it is the retail version of Nero..? If it came bundled with
another drive or was given to you by a Friend (who just may have not wanted
to use it), it won't work with your new drive, unless it's an older retail
version.

Thanks for everyones patience with my lack of PC knowledge an
questions, Im learning. All have a safe an great day.

Post your results..
Cheers

JJ, unless you wish to duplicate lots of cd discs, you may wish to
consider merely replacing your cd drive with the dvd--wire-for-wire. It
should handle both cd-discs and dvd-discs. s *If you do, ensure jumpers
on dvd-drive are set exactly (master, slave, or cable select) as your
cd-drive's were.*
