I looked at LibreOffice, but it didn't indicate that it was compatible with Win8.1, and I'm wary of complex software that claims to run on everything from Win2k on because there are some significant changes under the hood starting with Vista. I have a friend that has all kinds of problems with Open Office. Not sure why. I'd suspect that there's something wonky, either with your friend's computer Of this, I'm sure of. :-( But I haven't been able to get her to let me rebuild the entire thing. She even got a BSOD, and that's almost unheard of in Win7. And the way she likes to use it, extreme multitasking, I'm sure she really pushes the limit of her laptop at times. or with what he's trying to do with OO. I've used it for years, and haven't seen any show-stoppers. I've given up on Libre Office. Not from the standpoint that it doesn't do a pretty good job most of the time, but that there seems to be little interest in fixing some bugs. Some that have been around a long time, forcing you to do work arounds, and some that I've filed. And they are acknowledged. But they don't consider them important. They are important to me, and if the feature is broken, and it's a feature I use, why should I use it, why should I support it? There are limitations, but I've also run into limitations with MS-Office. If one tries to work beyond the limitations of a piece of software, all bets are off about what "problems" they'll run into. Agreed. But AFAIK, she's not using OO beyond it's limitations. But it may be a combination of her misunderstanding things, she likes to think it should work like Office, and problems in her computer. All I can do is sit and wait until she's so frustrated she'll throw it at me. :-) That's one reason why there are specialized apps to serve more sophisticated needs. I've finally got her into one of those programs, page layout. In this case, Serif's Page Plus X6. Serif had a "fire sale" on X6, and I bought 2 copies. She's really happy with it at the moment for the ease of use, but she may be pushing the computer to the edges again. Just not sure at them moment. -- Ken Mac OS X 10.8.5 Firefox 25.0 Thunderbird 24.3.0 "My brain is like lightning, a quick flash and it's gone!" |
