The answer to this question is obvious to anyone who looks on YouTube.
All you have to do is search for a controversial or a technical subject
and you will find plenty of discussions. Unfortunately they are not
threaded like here on UseNet (as I conceded long ago), but the original
poster has the power to moderate replies (and that's good). If it's a
popular channel, you will find jillions of original posts, some of them
having lots of back-and-forth replies.

Not unusual to have videos with many comments each followed by hundreds
of back-and-forth replies.

YouTube also includes an efficient messaging system that tells you when
others reply to or +1 your comments.

They knew what they were doing when they allowed the original poster to
moderate the replies. Exactly like the solution I mentioned to Paul, it
reduces the amount of work Google has to do. Somebody complains about
harassment, Google can say "you've got posting options, including
deleting their offensive reply".

If only YouTube included UseNet threading, weren't moderated by Google,
and didn't allow the original poster total control but instead allowed
hierarchical control as described in my reply to Paul. That would rock.
