Default Windows OneCare told me its firewall is off but I can't turn it on

Today my Windows Live OneCare told me its firewall is off. It was on up until
then. I clicked the "Turn on" button but it told me I had to turn on the
firewall but when I go to the Windows security center it will not let me do
anything with the firewall settings. It says "For your security, some
settings are controled by group policy". How do I fix this problem?

Thanks,
dbctl

DBCTL,

Are you using XP Pro?
Are you on a network or standalone?
START | RUN | type GPEDIT & press ENTER

Look in there for the said group policy if you have permission

I'm using XP on a home network. I did START | RUN | type GPEDIT & press ENTER
and it says Windows can't find GPEDIT?
What now?

Thanks for your help.

XP Home Edition? Gpedit exists only in XP Professional.

You need to type "gpedit.msc" and not just "gpedit". If you are on Windows
XP Home Edition, you will not have the group policy editor. It is only
available in Windows XP Professional.

No, I don't need to type anything. I'm not the one with the problem.
Please be sure to reply to the correct person.

That's exactly what I said below. No need to tell me that.
