Default Ghost Hard Drive Appears in Tree When Searching

When using the Windows XP search function an extra entry for my hard drive
mysteriously appears in the tree. The original appears as Local Disk (C;
the "ghost drive" appears as Local Hard Drives (C. This phantom drive shows
up in no other view of the folder/device tree! How has this happened? And how
do I get the ghost out of my machine?
