Default Windows just keeps hanging

Hey everyone

I hope someone can provide me with some guidance.

XP just seems to get stuck from time to time and this is
becoming more regular. I have noticed that i have always
had a connection such as my broadband open but it was not
busy.

If you open files or program they just dont open. Then
you try to open task manager to see whats happenbing and
that wont open. After loads of trial and error i have
worked out that if i close the internet connection, a
short while later all the programs i tried to start now
all start up.

While the hanging is happening there is sometimes lots of
disk activity but you cant see anything happening.

Its very odd and i dont know how to fix it. It renders
the computer useless to me!

I am running XP Pro on a P4 with loads of Ram and disk
space.

I appreciate anyones wise words

Cheers

David

There seems to be a few posts out there concerning the
computer just hanging or stopping what its doing yet not
showing any activities in task manager.
