The windows Compatibility system did not work; for XP, XP3, Windows7, Vista, I had the following experience, previously posted. It seems like the latest update caused problems for a few of us with older printers The latest update gave my Brother MFC-7840W fits. It would disappear, only to show back up on reboot and gave me error messages when I was attempting to print. Event Viewer recommended that the printer spooler service be restarted. So, I went around the web looking for how-to's and found a couple. So, I completed and it now seems to be working at least for today. I also went to the Brother website looking for updated drivers and perhaps a suite of utilities, but nothing has been updated sine 2013. I was disappointed to have such a hassle with this printer that has been my workhouse since purchase, but so far so good. |

I imagine that there will be more and that the companies (Brother and Microsoft) are already aware of the issue. Whether they make any attempt to fix it is another matter... |

Well, that's the funny part. Brother is probably only too happy to sell rolls of labels for that label printer. But the last software update was 2010. For a year 2004 printing device. The Windows catalog seems to think that package is good enough for Windows 8, but is non-committal about Windows 10. (Because 2010 is a long time ago.) Paul |

A couple of items have 2013 dates, but I don't think "anything important" has been modified. It's still a 2010 software package as near as I can tell. Maybe a miracle will happen. Paul |

On the other hand, I don't think that it's reasonable for us to expect a company to continue supporting a product released fourteen years ago. They don't agree with our "use it until it breaks beyond repair" philosophy on hardware. |
