Default W8 Password

When setting up W8 it required an email address and Password. Now,
whenever I boot up I must put in the &%@#& password. I've tried without
success to bypass that requirement. I don't want that protection!

How do I get W8 to eliminate the PW requirement. (Just more
frustrations with this OS)

Because it leaves you open to all sorts of nasty stuff.
It's plain safe computing to a) use a password (and how does putting in
a password - say 5 SECONDS - inconvenience you SO much?) and b) use a
STANDARD user account on a daily basis.

When you installed Win8 you had the choice of a Microsoft account or a Local account.
As you have entered an email address I'm guessing you chose the Microsoft account.
To logon without having to enter your email address you need a local account.
If you want to switch accounts:
From the Charm bar Settings
At the bottom right 'Change PC settings' Users.
On the right pane there are settings to switch account types.

Although putting in a password can take only a few seconds, in
practice the use of it can amount to considerably more.

For example, when I start up or reboot the computer, I start the
process and typically go into another room to do something else--go to
the bathroom, get myself something to eat or drink, talk to my wife,
glance at the headlines, etc. When I come back it is sitting there,
waiting for me to enter my password. If I didn't use a password, it
would have already finished booting.

So, at least for me, it's not five seconds, but several minutes. But I
agree with you that it's good to do.

I had replied some time back but don't see my post. My point is that I
don't need big Daddy in Redmond dictating what I must do. I don't want a
PW! It's kind of like 'big Government' creating so many regulations
then growing bigger to enforce them. I'm in California and we know
about regulations. Nancy is here.

It turns out that Dave in the UK might have the answer. I'll check that
out.

When you installed did, didn't it give you an option to configure just
a local acount, and bypass mail/password?

If you chose the email account/pw option you don't get a choice for that Windows Profile
- that email account and password are now your MSFT account which provides access to the MSFT Store for app updates, sync to
SkyDrive, and all other integrated MSFT Account features.

On the bright side: reinstalling is fast!

I tried this and it worked like a 'Charm'.

Run netplwiz and remove the checkmark from the box next to "Users must enter
a user name and password to use this computer" and click OK. It'll prompt
you for your password. Enter it, press OK, and you're good to go :-)
