Diskcaching: Primocache
I`m just playing around with Primocache (on a host and its VM). Looks
promising, especially if you have a lot of RAM and only harddisks. Some scenarios: https://kallesplayground.wordpress.c...e-for-windows/ http://howdoicomputer.com/2016/02/pr...roduct-review/ |

Diskcaching: Primocache
But if you have enough RAM (ca. 10 GB) start with (in an elevated
command shell): fsutil behavior set memoryusage 2 Background: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...(v=ws.11).aspx (...) Increasing physical memory does not always increase the amount of paged pool memory available to NTFS. Setting memoryusage to 2 raises the limit of paged pool memory. This might improve performance if your system is opening and closing many files in the same file set and is not already using large amounts of system memory for other applications or for cache memory. If your computer is already using large amounts of system memory for other applications or for cache memory, increasing the limit of NTFS paged and non-paged pool memory reduces the available pool memory for other processes. This might reduce overall system performance. This parameter updates the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\N tfsMemoryUsage registry key. (...) What makes me hesitant is that I have a RAID on Intel's controller and they already do their own caching + my boot drive is an SSD. This means PrimoCache would only really be useful for the Apps/Games drive, and Windows caching might be enough already. But feel free to report your experiences with it! Diskcaching: Primocache
I`m using Primocache since a year now, on a host (24 GB RAM) with 2
virtual machines (VMs). My main VM (terminal server for 5 people, 9.5 GB RAM) usually shows a hit rate in Primocache of around 80% (4 GB of RAM for the buffered partition of the VM, laying on a Samsung 860 Pro SSD). It makes things faster and smoother, I believe. But also important was to configure "i/o priority" with the free "Process Hacker 2". It can set and keep the process priorities for the CPU and for i/o, which really makes a difference with big backup jobs (database dumps) in the background, which used to slow down the terminal server when running, a few times per day for 2-3 minutes. After grading down the i/o priority of the backup processes one step in Process Hacker, this "problem" is gone: https://processhacker.sourceforge.io On Tue, 20 Jun 2017 22:32:29 +0200, Michael Logies wrote: But if you have enough RAM (ca. 10 GB) start with (in an elevated command shell): fsutil behavior set memoryusage 2 Background: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...(v=ws.11).aspx (...)
