Default assistant thinks I already have 1804

Downloaded the Windows 10 April 2018 upgrade assistant

http://download.microsoft.com/download/B/F/E/BFEE8FEE-DEB5-4EE1-9439-DEE035C62BD6/Windows10Upgrade28096.exe

But when I run it, it very briefly says "checking" then just says "thank
you for running the latest version of windows 10"

Anyone else?

And now the download link has changed to

https://download.microsoft.com/download/C/8/E/C8E7013A-F5D5-4F9F-A94E-3B4F333F2930/Windows10Upgrade9252.exe

But when I run it, it very briefly says "checking" then just says "thank
you for running the latest version of windows 10"

And it's doing the upgrade, I guess they forgot to change the link from
1709 to 1803 ...

Windows automatically installed the update in my case and so far, I
like it. It finally organizes the laptop's hard disks (I only have a
M.2 SSD combo and a 2.5" HD for two drives but the previous versions
showed me as having more), slightly cleans up the Microsoft Edge
interface and shows which files were synchronized in Windows Explorer.
No drawbacks yet from what I can tell.

Downloaded ok, so left it installing while I went to sleep, all seems ok
afterwards, if a little 'meh!' ... they should have named it 1805 really

Yes, once their download link pointed me to the "correct" assistant, it
upgraded to 17134.1

Seems as though one of the internal version numbers for 1803 *is*
actually 1804

10.0.17134.1.amd64fre.rs4_release.180410-1804

Consistent with the code signing dates(one day prior) when 17134.x(1803) was
released to the Windows Insiders Fast, Slow, and Preview Ring in April.

p.s. This might add some more perspective(or confusion) on the numbering
Latest Insider Build 17661 Fast and Skip Ahead Ring *is* as shown in:
- winver(i.e. About Windows): Version 1803(OS Build 17661.10)
- Registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion)
Build Lab key: 17661.rs_prerelease.180428-1349
BuildLabEx key: 17661.1001.amd64fre.rs_prerelease.180428-1349
ReleaseId: 1803
*where 180428 is the internal signoff date*

WTF is an upgrade assistant? Why don't you just use the normal windows update?

I've yet to see any update which changes anything at all.

And add to that, they usually introduce a few more bugs.

Well, the new features might never be visible but we all notice when
things that used to work stop doing so.

That's because they keep adding features before repairing the ones they got wrong before.

Which isn't very different than the competition. To be honest, Apple,
Microsoft are very bad at fixing problems and though you'd expect
Linux developers to do a better job, the reality is that they fix
security problems quickly and ignore anything else.
