Default Printer fails on latest Windows update.

A Brother p-touch QL-500 (2004 model) fails to
install with the error message "Failed to Add

Is there a fix, or some emulation software to make
it work.

I had the following experience, previously posted. It seems like the
latest update caused problems for a few of us with older printers

The latest update gave my Brother MFC-7840W fits. It would disappear,
only to show back up on reboot and gave me error messages when I was
attempting to print.

Event Viewer recommended that the printer spooler service be restarted.
So, I went around the web looking for how-to's and found a couple.

So, I completed and it now seems to be working at least for today. I
also went to the Brother website looking for updated drivers and perhaps
a suite of utilities, but nothing has been updated sine 2013.

I was disappointed to have such a hassle with this printer that has been
my workhouse since purchase, but so far so good.

This is the second reference to a Brother printer posted in the
newsgroup. I imagine that there will be more and that the companies
(Brother and Microsoft) are already aware of the issue. Whether they
make any attempt to fix it is another matter...

Well, that's the funny part.

Brother is probably only too happy to sell rolls of
labels for that label printer.

But the last software update was 2010. For a year 2004 printing device.

The Windows catalog seems to think that package is good
enough for Windows 8, but is non-committal about Windows 10.
(Because 2010 is a long time ago.)

Those guys don't have very good hygiene practices.

A couple of items have 2013 dates, but I don't think
"anything important" has been modified. It's still
a 2010 software package as near as I can tell.

Maybe a miracle will happen.

On the other hand, I don't think that it's reasonable for us to expect
a company to continue supporting a product released fourteen years
ago. They don't agree with our "use it until it breaks beyond repair"
philosophy on hardware.
