Right Click question
Running WinXP PRO SP3
When I right click on an item in Windows Explorer, I get a number of options. There is one option I don't want there and would like to remove it from the list. Is there a way to remove the item please? Henry |

Anyone else? |

Anyone else? My brain popped out these keywords... shellex context menu handlers And this popped up. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html I would expect items you've added to appear in this tool, but I don't know about the ones provided by Windows (default items). Like, I don't know if you can reduce the Context Menu to an empty list or not. Paul |

Right Click question
It'd be a lot easier if you said what the item is.
At the top will be items that are created with keys under HKCR\*\Shell\ After that come items that are created with keys under HKCR\*\ShellEx\. * in this case can be * itself, or anything else. HKCR\*\ is for universal items that apply to all files. Something like HKCR\.txt\shell\ would have items that only show when right-clicking a text file. Items that show for folders will be under HKCR\Directory\ or HKCR\Folder\. Knowing that much you can search the Registry for the item you want to remove. If the item is below the first separator, below SendTo, then you probably can't remove it. Right Click question
Henry was thinking very hard :
Running WinXP PRO SP3 When I right click on an item in Windows Explorer, I get a number of options. There is one option I don't want there and would like to remove it from the list. Is there a way to remove the item please? Henry For your future reference, go he http://www.nirsoft.net/ Download these four items and you will have the ability to enable and diaable just about every item that is listed on your right click menu without going directly into the registry to do it. ShellExView ShellOpenwithview Shellmenunew ShellView Note: They are all very small downloads. You may even see other items that interest you. -- Zo REDUNDANCY: An airbag in a politician's car. |

Is there a way to remove the item please? Other than using shell extension editors (as mentioned by Zo for Nirsoft), have you looked into whatever program added that menu entry to see if it has an option to enable/disable its intregation? The shell extension editors will let you disable/enable/delete extensions, not the menu entries that are part of Windows Explorer. You never mentioned which context menu item it was that you wanted to delete so you also never implied for which program that shell extension was added. |
