I had 15 for my desktop and 14 for my laptop, MSE not included. Did you do a
manual check for updates?

This evening I received and installed 12 updates. But I'm far away from
Alaska :-)

I installed 13 of them, yesterday.

Yesterday, Windows Update indicated several important and optional
updates.

Among the optional updates, I installed the latest virus data for
Security Essentials. None of the Web pages linked from the other
updates provided any reason why they should be installed, so I marked
them "hidden".

Among the important updates was one for Outlook, which I never use, and
one non-security update for Windows itself. The Web pages linked from
the latter provided any reason why it should be installed. Both of
those I marked "hidden".

I will wait until next week before installing the remaining updates. I
want to see what other users experience with them before inflicting them
on myself.

I'm not getting my normal notification on the Taskbar the updates are available.
I may have done something to disable the notification of updates. I choose to
not install auto, but let me know and I will do the installation. How do I
regain that notification??

Thanks

I do all my undates manually. The BITS and Update services are running so
maybe I am at the wrong end of the update stream and will try again later
and hope for better luck.

I don't think so. Same here and I didn't change anything myself (except
updating).
Now I have to go to update centre to find out if there are updates.

I think MS killed it.

I think you're right.
It would be nice if somebody could advise us all in this NG when updates
are available.

I'm not totally sure, but I think I may have found the problem! I Right Clicked
on the Taskbar and went to Properties, then to Notification Area/Customize, with
down to Windows Updates and it was set at "Show only Notifications", I changed
that to "Show Icon and Notifications". Don't know if it solved the problem, but
will see the next time a Windows Update is available.

Let me know what you all think!

That seems like a shot in the dark to me.
I will, however, change my mind and apologise if it works.

+1

I no longer have anything about Windows Update in the notification area,
and I've done nothing to change it.

Go to All Programs and type in Microsoft Updates. It will show up in a
window and can either be run from there or copy it to your desktop for future
use.
