Default USB drive?

Thanks in advance.

I have a usb hard drive that XP is picking up and recognizing as a "mass
storage device". I can not access it via windows explorer or disk
management. I strongly suspect that it needs formatting. Anyone any ideas
before I go out and purchase Partition Magic.

Even when the disk is not partitioned and/or formated it should
be shown in the disk management. Look very carefully if it's
shown there.
If not then try to attach the drive to another computer. Maybe
it's just defective.
Partition Magic will not help.
