Win98 can not see XP
I tried to set up a friends network today and the XP machine can see the 98
machine but not the other way. The fire wall on the XP machine is off and the work group names are the same. I did a \\name\ and it could not find the XP machine. I spent about two hours trying to find something wrong and now I am just not sure what it could be. Help Please! Thanks ChrisGW |

Win98 can not see XP
Greetings ChrisGW,
Make sure the XP's firewall is disabled. If you have any other firewall installed such as ZoneAlarm, Sygate, or Norton make sure it is properly configured for the network. Ensure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all machines. Details here. Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT) http://www.practicallynetworked.com/...hoot/netbt.htm __________________ Eric "ChrisGW" wrote in message ... ChrisGW,
Please provide the ipconfig results on both computers. Click Start, Run, and type "cmd" (without quotes) and press ENTER. At the command prompt, type "ipconfig /all c:\ipconfig.txt" and press ENTER. Open c:\ipconfig.txt in notepad, then copy and paste into your next post. _________________ Eric "ChrisGW" wrote in message ... The NetBios was correct. I double checked the firewalls and there are none set. I re-did everything and still nothing. This one has me stumped.
