Default Live Messenger sends link to contacts on buddy list automatically

I use Microsoft live messenger version 8.0.0792.00 and it has been
automatically sending a link to contacts on my buddy list. The link is in
Portuguese but leads to a Russian website with an address of pochta.ru
How can I take this virus or whatever it is out of my computer? I
downloaded messenger from the Microsoft website a fee weeks ago and
reinstalled it last week but the problem continues. Thank you.

Latest is Windows Live Messenger 8.0.0812 - an upgrade might help.

Thanks Jerry. When I downloaded Messenger last week, I got the version that I
mentioned. I will try it again and see if the newer version does the trick.
Appreciate your input.

I don't understand the purpose of this filtering. The messenger contacts are
already there and I would think most people would want to email the people in
their email address book not a bunch of messenger contacts.
