HP 722c printer blurred and smeared since XP
An elderly friend of mine just had XP installed on his older Compaq
computer. He is still using the HP 722c printer he used with win 98. Since installing XP all his copies are blurred and smeared. We have cleaned the heads, aligned the cartridges, changed the cartridges, checked for new drivers (he has the latest), and deleted and reinstalled the printer. Nothing we've tried has helped. I'd appreciate any help you can give me with this. I'm at a loss because I have a new Dell with XP and my 722c printer works just fine. Helene |

Thanks Victor, I will try to get up there in the next few days and give it a
try. I'm going to take my printer up and try it first to rule out whether his printer could have just gone bad for some reason. If my printer doesn't work either, we'll know for sure it's the drivers or something with his computer. I appreciate the help, and I'll let you know how I make out. Victor, I went to the website and followed the directions step by step. The
printer was still messed up. I thought maybe I had missed something, so I did it again. Still nothing. So I deleted the printer and all drivers and software, disconnected the printer cables, and uninstalled xp. Then I reinstalled and then reinstalled and connected the printer. It is still messed up. I thought maybe being connected through the scanner (Visioneer 5300, which is also not compatible with xp) was the problem, so I connected the printer directly through the computer. Still nothing. After six hours we're still nowhere. Do you have any other ideas? I really appreciate your taking the time to help me. Helene "Victor D." wrote in message ... Have you ran a test page and did it come out clear?
Being connected through the scanner will mess up the printers bi directional communication. If you tried printing through scanner after you reinstalled the drivers, then try uninstalling the drivers one more time then reinstall drivers and connect printer directly to computer and see if this works if you haven't already. XP does not support piggy-backing parallel port devices. BOTH scanner and
printer will have to be uninstalled in order to get it working correctly again. And only ONE of them can be reinstalled...unless you want to move one (or preferably both) to USB devices which may involve purchasing new hardware. -- Cari (MS-MVP Windows Client - Printing, Imaging & Hardware) www.coribright.com "Victor D." wrote in message ... Yes, I did run a test page. That had all kinds of things missing and some
garbled. The colors were wrong too. I already ried uninstall/install/connect directly to computer. That didn't work either. Helene "Victor D." wrote in message ... I have XP on my new Dell, and have the same configuration as my friend
except I have Visioneer 3000 scanner and he has Visioneer 5300. My is piggy backed also. Everything works fine even though XP warned the scanner might not. Was it because mine was a new install of xp? Helene "Cari (MS MVP)" wrote in message ... XP does not support piggy-backing parallel port devices.
