Default Slow response with My Computer folder and internet explorer

Whenever I attempt to acces the MY Computer folder either directly from the
desktop or when using a file selection box, it takes about 2 minutes to
respond and you see the flashlight and folder animated icon. Every icon I
double-click from that point forward has sub-second response. Also when
using an IE window, if I type in a url and press ENTER I don't see any
indication that anything is happening and then finally after about 2 minutes
I see the website being accessed and it displays very quickly. If I have the
same url saved in favorites it will respond instantly. The slowest internet
link I use is a 1.5meg DSL connection and even on a T-1 link everthing reacts
the same.

I have Norton Antivirus 2005 installed, up to date, and I run weekly virus
scans. I run weekly ad ware scans using adaware and have also used
microsoft's beta spyware program. Those have not helped.

Can anyone suggest anything I might have missed?

Thanks.

Disable the Windows Image Acquisition service.
See:-
'Long delay before files appear in My Computer in Windows XP'

Instead of using a beta application try Spybot,Search and
Destroy,CWShredder.Run all the latest versions in Safe mode.
