Security Update for Microsoft.NET Framework, Version 1.1Service pa
I've gotten this update from Microsoft repeatedly and the Update Icon will
NOT leave my task bar! Even though I've 'installed' the update (more than once) the icon remains. I can't find any way to get rid of it and don't know if this update has actually installed or not. The file is in WINNT; at least I think this is it. Do I have to click it myself to get it to actually install? Here's the file I found: NDP1.1sp1-KB928366-X86.exe Can anyone tell me how to get this to STOP? Thank you in advance. ;o) -- Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Don’t lean to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. Prov 3:5,6 |

Thank you in advance. ;o) You can get 'this to STOP' by making sure it installs. Since it's being reoffered, it's apparent that .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 has not installed properly. The first thing to verify is if .NET Framework 1.1 is installed properly. It's improper/inconsistent installation is what has led to the failure of SP1 to install. NET Framework setup verification tool http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archi...3/8015158.aspx If the tool reports that the Framework is not installed properly, then attempt to uninstall .NET Framework 1.1 from Add/Remove Progams in the Control Panel. *IF* it can not be uninstalled from there, as a last resort, use Aaron's 'Automated cleanup tool to remove the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5': http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archi...30/611355.aspx Reboot afterwards. Download and reinstall .NET Framework 1.1 https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...displaylang=en then do the same for Service Pack 1 https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...DisplayLang=en MowGreen [MVP 2003-2008] =============== *-343-* FDNY Never Forgotten =============== |

Well Mow, I ran the verification tool and it reported that ‘Verification
Succeeded’. Now what?? -- Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Don’t lean to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. Mow, I just checked Add/Remove and KB928366 isn't in there at all. I checked
WINNT and it isn't there either (not that I can see). Yet when I ran a search I came up with NDP1.1sp1-KB928366-X86.exe And as I already said the verification tool said that Verification Succeeded. Any ideas? -- Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Don’t lean to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. KB928366 will be listed as " .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB928366) "
It's not under ' Windows XP - Software Updates '. Since .NET 1.1 has been Verified as being installed, then KB928366 should install properly without issue *unless* 3rd party software is preventing that. IF it's not listed as installed, right after .NET Framework 1.1 in Add/Remove, then it has not installed. You could check 2 logs, located in YourUserAccounts\Temp subfolder. To do so, show hidden files, folders, and system files: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...l62.html#winxp Then navigate to the Temp folder by clicking Start Run type in %temp% Click OK or press Enter Your UserAccount Temp subfolder will now be open. The 2 logs you can check, if they exist, are netfxsl.log and NetFxUpdate_v1.1.4322.log The first log will contain other entries besides ones applicable to KB928366. Check the Dates towards the left and inspect the most *recent* ones towards the bottom of the log. The second log just logs KB928366, but is not as complete. If you're puzzled by the logs, then post the entire NetFxUpdate_v1.1.4322.log by copying and pasting it into your reply, please. Mow,
I've been unable to get back to this until now. I checked for the log files you suggested [netfxsl.log and NetFxUpdate_v1.1.4322.log & KB928366] and they don’t exist. I only have the two .NET framework files listed in add/remove and neither one has KB928366 listed at the end. What now? Thanks, Jo |

Do or did you run a disk cleanup or registry checker tool ?
Specifically, what are the entries in Add/Remove Programs that begin with " Microsoft .NET Framework ___ " ? I didn’t run disk cleanup or a registry checker tool. Honestly I didn’t even
think of doing so. The two files are as follows: Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886903) Thanks, Jo -- Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Please check to see if there's a netfxupdate.log located in your User
Account temp folder. Start Run type in %temp% Click OK or press Enter. Copy and paste the contents of the netfxupdate.log, if it exists, into your reply. Also, with hidden files, folders, and system files showing http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...l62.html#winxp navigate to WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\Updates If the Updates subfolder exists, open it and see if there's another subfolder in there named 'M928366'. If it exists, open M928366 and see if this file is present: M928366Uninstall.msp *** What is the installed antivirus/security suite ? *** MowGreen [MVP 2003-2008] =============== *-343-* FDNY Never Forgotten =============== GrammyJo wrote: I didn’t run disk cleanup or a registry checker tool. Sorry it took me so long to get back on this. Things have been a bit crazy
around here. To answer your questions: In the Updates subfolder there are only 2 files. They are ‘hotfix.exe’ & a file named ‘M886903’. And that file contains: M886903Uninstall.msp I run Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2006, automatically updated. I’m planning on buying 2009 and installing it today or tomorrow. I thought that auto updates were sufficient but now see that TM switched to another ‘digit’ numbering series (something like that) so I no longer feel ‘safe’ doing what I have been, thus I’m going to upgrade. -- Trust in the Lord with all your heart. In the Updates subfolder there are only 2 files. They are ‘hotfix.exe’ & a
file named ‘M886903’. And that file contains: M886903Uninstall.msp Since KB928366 is *NOT* able to write to the WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework subfolders, the installation of KB928366 will *never* occur with Trend Micro's firewall and antivirus running. Never. The only way to get this update installed is when Trend is *uninstalled* or *completely* disabled. If this is too difficult you to do, *strongly* suggest you contact MS for no-charge support in getting the security update installed: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928366 " If you have problems with this security update that are not addressed by these known issues, no-charge support is available for consumers by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx " 'Security' software that prevents the system from updating is the SAME as viruses, trojans, worms, etc. that prevent the system from updating. The only difference is that you are PAYING for it to mess up your system instead of PAYING to have it removed. Clear now ?
