Help needed XPHome & Linksys router network PLEASE
I have 3 desktops ( and occasionally a laptop) all running XPHome connected
via RJ45 wire to Linksys BEFSR41 ver2 eitherfast/dsl router. All can see the internet no problem, no firewall is activated on any ( during tests). Some list one or two of the other pcs but get not authorised messages when trying to connect. I used to be able to share all folders/programs between all pcs but something seems to have changed and i cannot find out what it is. Network wizard does not help other than insisting using a gateway/router that all pcs have the firewall active ( this gets disabled during testing of the network). I also used to be able to play network games between pcs but can't do that either now. At wits end.........can anyone help please??? Rgds Kev |

Rgds Kev I've written a web site that should help you solve the problem: Windows XP Network Troubleshooting http://www.practicallynetworked.com/...g/troubleshoot Please pay particular attention to these sections: 1. Firewalls: Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other firewalls while troubleshooting. 2. Protocols: Use only one for File and Printer Sharing. If the network needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all but one of them. 3. NetBIOS over TCP/IP: Make sure that it's enabled on all computers. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups. Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Program http://mvp.support.microsoft.com |
