Default unauthorized remote access

before i turned network file sharing ON through the network setup wizard it
warned me that if i'm on a direct connection to the internet anyone on the
internet could access my files. i'm connected through an adsl router, is this
considered a direct connection? and, how can i check if my files are
accessible by anyone on the internet?

ADSL router is considered a direct connection if you do not have a
"private" style IP address (example: 192.168.0.xxx / 10.0.0.xxx.)

No, a router isn't a direct connection. The router connects to the
Internet, and the computer gets its connection indirectly through the
router.

Go to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and run ShieldsUP! to test
your Internet security. Run the "All Service Ports" scan.
