Boot problem

I have a strange problem when starting my laptop:
when the splash screen appear, boot is very slow for exactly 3 min, and then
it run the usual speed - I can tell by looking at the "streaming chain", for
3 min it is hardly moving, and then it starts to move at the regular speed.
I checked for viruses, spywares Trojan etc, I defragmented my disk but
nothing helped. I started at safe mode - the same problem exists.
Any ideas how to solve it?

Hi Gerry,

No- anti-virus is not scheduled to automatical scan on start-up. More over,
I disabled my anti virus (Avast) and my firewall (zone alarm), but the
problem did not disappear. Some more details:
* I noted that during the "slow period" there is no disk activity
* The slow period" last always exactly 3 min and 5 sec.
* When starting from hibrenat, there is no "slow period" at all
* I also used msconfig to disable all startup applications - but the problem
remains

What is your ant-spyware arrangement?

Do you leave the computer on 24/7?

What Error / Warning reports ( if any ) appear in the System log in
Event Viewer when you last booted the machine?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy

I am useing microsoft defender.
Looking carefully at the event viewer, it seems that the problem starts
before the Event log service was started!
I can see the 3 min delay between restarting and "Event log service started"
The rest of the boot process is very fast without errors or any unusual
events.
I started the bootlogging, but since there is no time stamp, I could not see
where the problem starts. Most probebly, the slow period related to one of
the following drivers:

What is your computer make and model? In what year was it new?

How is Windows XP described on your Windows XP CD?

Was there any earlier version of Windows on the computer before Windows
XP?

Is there any difference in the time taken to boot if you Shutdown
completely and Start the computer using the Start button to what happens
if you select Start, Turn Off Computer, Restart?

Are there any problems occuring when the computer is shut down?

Please post a copy of the Event Viewer Error report relating to
acpies.sys.

The reference to "Service Pack 210 8 2007" has me puzzled? When did the
delay start to occur. Are you installing Beta Service Packs? There has
one for Exchange?

Hi Gerry,

Laptop is MSI S420, it was bought a year ago.
Windows is XP Profentional
There was no any earlier version of Windows on the computer before Windows
XP.
There is no difference between resrart or shut down and start again.

No problems occuring when the computer is shut down.

Warning:
\Device\ACPIEC: The embedded controller (EC) hardware returned data when
none was requested. This may indicate that the BIOS is incorectly trying to
access the EC without syncronizing with the OS. The data is being ignored.


I did not install Beta Service Packs.
The delay starts when the spalsh window appears (wuth the "runing string"),
and after 3 min the "running string" strat to move fast (normal) and then
every thing behave normal
