Jonathan - continuing ICS probs
Copied from my earlier post:
Jonathan, There were about 4, msmgs entries.... 15599 UDP, 8959 TCP, 21994 TCP and 12788 UDP. I have no idea what those figures mean! "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" wrote in message ... Jonathan, Bit of a delay getting back to you but I have tried this and am still having no luck. I cannot start any video or voice conversation at all when ICS is enabled. Nor can I send files. I can however participate if someone invites me.... Any other suggestions? TIA Adrian "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" wrote in message ... Greetings Adrian, ICS is UPnP enabled, so it shouldn't be a problem, you might just need to reset the UPnP ports set in the ICS. To do so, click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications, Network Connections. Right click your connection, then click Properties. Click the Advanced Tab, and then click the Settings button. Click each 'msmsgs' or 'msnmsgr' entry and then choose 'Delete' to each one. Then close Messenger (right-click the Messenger icon, choose Exit), then restart Messenger and try a voice/video conversation again. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com pink wrote in message ... Jonathan, I run win XP home on my home PC and laptop, with NIS installed the home PC. I have had a problem where I have been unable to initiate video or voice chats or to send or receive files.. I thought it was a firewall problem, however... I have now found that if I disable ICS (the XP version) it works fine, although obviously this means my laptop can't access the internet. So what do I need to do to let ICS work and still let me initialise video calls? I gather ICS is uPNP compliant so I can't see where the problem is.. ATB Adrian |

Jonathan - continuing ICS probs
Greetings Pink,
This is exactly what's supposed to be happening, this is Messenger and UPnP automatically opening and forwarding the proper ports for voice/video to be successful (at least on your end). I would encourage you to uninstall NIS (temporarily) and see if you can get it to work with it out of the way (if you can, then reinstall NIS). Because it appears that ICS is working correctly. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com pink wrote in message ... Jonathan,
So I presume you mean it is some interaction between NIS and ICS that is the problem? As it works fine with ICS disabled.... Thanks, Adrian "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" wrote in message ... Hi Adrian,
That's my guess (unfortunately I don't have any sort of setup here where I could test this for you also). ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "pink" wrote in message ...
