Default how to stop M$.net dialog box pop up

i keep getting this annoying pop up from M$ .net asking me
to sign up. I am not running any MSN service, or Messenger
(i disabled it via gpedit.msc) or any other M$ product
other than XP itself.

The pop up occurs when i am moving to and away from
certain websittes, and they are not microsoft. (spurs
discussion forum)

THank you

Why M$? If you are going to insult a company why are you using their free
newsgroups? I think you should free yourself from Microsoft and use a
different OS.

Force of habit. And I do not see that abbr. as an insult,
so it's your problem. Do you have anything to contribute
to my current dilemma beyond petty symbolism?

Hello,

What *exactly* does the pop-up window say?

Can you provide an example site where this occurs?

Later,
Neb

Hello Neb!
It is a dialog box that basically welcomes me to .Net
services and asks me to sign up. It's no longer popping up
right now, for some reason, so i can't really give you
what it says, word for word.

The example site requires a login/password to access:

Is this a relatively new installation of Windows XP?

New installs of XP typically suggest obtaining a Passport. These
suggestions go away after a while, however.

Neb

Yes, i had installed XP on a new hard drive several weeks
back. Maybe that could be the reason, but then that means
i would have had been getting these requests for a
passport at the very beginning, not a month later. What
gives?

It's definately an insult if not the most established insult towards
Microsoft on the internet. I suppose some of your best friends work at
Microsoft so it's ok! If you have a habit of calling racial groups by
derogatory names is it their problem as well?

Do you have anything to contribute
to my current dilemma beyond petty symbolism?

Nope...I think letting you see yourself in the mirror is enough.

insult towards Microsoft on the internet.

Then it remains your problem of reification, not mine.
Your demand that the symbol M$ necessarily expresses a
negative meaning is hilarious.

I suppose some of your best friends work at
Microsoft so it's ok!

Irrelevant.

derogatory names is it their problem as well?

Bad analogy. M$ is not the equivalent of a truly
derogatory term, unless you think you can share your
cognitive dissonance.

Nope...I think letting you see yourself in the mirror is

enough.

my my what a cheap imitation of a snap. I'm sure that took
you a long time to type, eh? Or was that your best shot?
*smile*
