XP Upgrade trouble
I also think Win 3.11 was the best OS ever developed. It's design and =
quality that makes a good OS. Win ME was the pinnacle of it's design. XP = fails the test in so many ways. One example is nslookup. It does not support the /? or -help commands. = Half of the command lines use unix notation (with a few going 100% and = being case sensitive) while the rest use MS-Dos notation. Some commands = have MS-Dos smartness with parsing (eg only one switch starts with a = then /a is all you need type for /all) while others are really dumb (if = it says /averylongthing then one must type it in full). A second thing = is when right clicking toolbar buttons. MMC and Help Viewer programs = place commands, useless commands at that, where the standard windows = commands should be. A third thing is the partial removal of right click = edit menus - all go or none go. ME was the best design. XP has many heritages, Unix, NT, Win 3.1, Win = 9x, OS/2, MS-Dos (and earlier versions could run programs written for = any of them), and CP/M. It was designed by the designer of minicomputers = (we're micocomputing but the terms are meaningless now) OSs and is = really a mismash. However Win 3.1 was just great. Unlike component software (makes = programmer's life's easier) everything was designed to meld with = everything else. We haven't had that since. Even ME, the best since, was = flakey. --=20 ---------------------------------------------------------- http://www.g2mil.com/Dec2003.htm "Nick" wrote in message = ... First I have no reason to spread lies. I am not associated with anyone = who would profit from XP sales. And you still didn't answer the = question. I guess ignoring the question is a lot easier than answering = it. And I guess myself and all the techs I have talked to from Best Buy = and Circuit City and Comp USA along with the people at TechTV are all = telling lies. You are the only one who is telling the truth. Fine = whatever, you are still using XP insted of ME when you could of bought = ME. I can't imagine why you would do that when you had a choice and you = claim ME is the best. You are saying whatever it takes to get the last = word. I'd expect more from someone who was born in 1960. But I was born = in 1956 and I know your type all to well. I am done waisting threads on = you, your not worth it! Nick |
