Default Messenger 5.0 and Linksys Router

I am pulling my hair out trying to establish a video and voice connection
with a friend. My friend has no router or firewall so the problem appears
to be on my end. We both have Winxp.
My friend is able to hear and see me just fine but I cannot hear or see them
at all. I have the latest firmware for the router but still nothing.

Is there anyway to establish a successful connection? Is there another
program out there that works? I would be willing to pay for a program at
this point if it is reliable.

Thanks for your help!

Yahoo Messenger works fine for video and voice, thru my Linksys
router.

We hear that some folks have MSN / Windows Messenger working, and
prefer it to Yahoo Messenger (the communications protocols it uses are
technically superior to those of YM). But so far thse folks haven't
posted in this forum.

Oh yes, two things for you to check:
1) Enable UPnP in the router - look under Password.
2) Verify that UPnP is working in your XP - you should have an entry
for Linksys Router in Network Connections.

I cured my problem by installing the Logitech software last. This is after
installing SP1 update and all other updates. The latest logitech drivers
include an XP SP1 patch. Hope it helps..

Greetings Robert,

A few things could be causing this. Firstly, make sure you've gone through the Audio (and
Video) Tuning Wizard recently (open the main Messenger window, click the Tools menu, then
Audio Tuning Wizard).

Secondly, try turning off any firewall you might have engaged, including the Windows XP
Internet Connection Firewall -- click Start, then click the Control Panel. If you're in
category view click Network and Internet connections then click Network Connections. Right
click your network/internet connection, then click Properties. Click the Advanced Tab, and
verify that the Internet Connection Firewall is unchecked.

Thirdly, you may just need to remove the current forwardings -- to do so, click Start, All
Programs, Accessories, Communications, Network Connections. Right-click the "Internet
Gateway" (should be under the Internet Gateway heading) and choose Properties. Choose the
Settings button, click each 'msmsgs' or 'msnmsgr' entry and then choose 'Delete' to each one.
Then close Messenger (right-click the Messenger icon, choose Exit), then restart Messenger
and try a voice/video conversation again.
