Default Recovering hard drive files

Just wanna know how to recover music files from my external hard drive. I
disconnected it from one PC hooked it up to my second PC to transfer some
music folders and pictures. I then went back and hooked it up to my first PC
and the majority of my folders and files weren't there. How can I get them
back? The stuff that is shown is not even close to a gig but on My Computer
it says I have 185 GB free out of 232 GB. Please Help.
