Adding Comp with windows XP to present network with 98SE

I've added a new machine to my network of five (now six).
The original 5 machines are running 98SE and the new
machine is running windows xp. One of the origianl five
computers is not showing up on my network places on the
new machine nor is the new machine showing up on the old
one that is not showing on the new machine. the remaining
four original show up on both the new and old that is not
showing on the new.
What's wrong

Do you have any software firewalls (ICF or third party) on any computer? Ever?

Are you running NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (Local Area Connection - Properties - TCP/IP
- Properties - Advanced - WINS) on the odd computer? Are you using it on the
other computers? NBT is the default on WinXP and generally on Win98SE.

Are you running both Client for Microsoft Networks, and File and Printer Sharing
for Microsoft Networks, on the odd computer? Do you have shares setup on it?

From the odd computer, and from one working computer:
1) Ping the other by name.
2) Ping the other by ip address.
3) Ping itself by name.
4) Ping itself by ip address.
5) Ping 127.0.0.1.
6) Ping the router.
Report success / failure of each of 12 pings.

And Rich, please don't contribute to the spread of email address mining viruses.
Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a bit safer when
posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the internet - never
post your address unmunged.
