Question Noise on PC

Hello,
I a newbie and have several questions. I am a self taught PC user and have encountered a problem with a noise my PC makes that sounds like a siren (it goes from high to low, high to low). It started with a game I've had for several years, then went to another game and now it starts up just about anytime, no matter if it's a game or other program. It just about drives you crazy before you shut down the PC or it finally stops on it's own. The questions are, pray tell what is this, what's causing it and how do I get rid of it. I've ran a spyware dector, a viris dector and various other programs trying to find it. No luck. I would really appreciate some advice on this problem.
