Run the add-on ...
Using Win-10 Pro and IE 11. This morning I started to browse the Internet
and am now getting the IE 11 ribbon at bottom of screen that says "This webpage wants to run the following add-on: 'Adobe Flash Player' from 'Microsoft Windows Third Party Application Compon....' What'd I pick up? Every site I go to this popup raises its head. Even when I click "Allow for all websites" it keeps popping up. |

Perhaps you have an out-of-date and vulnerable version of Flash Player. I am guessing that you are beinng asked to confirm on every site because a malicious or hacked site could use the vulnerable out-of-date Flash Player to take control of your computer. To check the version of 'Adobe Flash Player' in IE 11 1) In IE 11, go to Tools Manage Add-ons 2) At the left under 'Add-on Types' select 'Toolbars and Extensions' 3) Below the list of add-on types, set the 'Show:' drop-down to "All add-ons' 4) On the right-hand site, look for a row with the name 'Shockwave Flash Object'. -- Kind regards Ralph 🦊 |

In Settings (gear wheel), use the Updates/Security thing, find Windows Update, then use the "History" entry. It will list "success" or "failure" for stuff. Maybe the last entries show "failure" ? If you have a bunch of failures in a row, that's a kind of "plugged plumbing". You can go to this site via web browser: catalog.update.microsoft.com Enter some search terms such as flash windows 10 When the list comes back (117 items), sort via the date column. There are two entries that look interesting: KB4025376 x64 Version 1703 --- Creator KB4025376 x86 Version 1703 --- Creator You can run "winver" to verify you are running 15063, which is 1703 release. Visiting here, shows what Flash version those are. http://support.microsoft.com/help/4025376 26.0.0.137 Since IE11 has both x86 and x64 executables, I'd try downloading both versions. MSEdge might be x64 only (but that's a guess). The MSU file you get in a download, you double click that to install it. In many cases, when Windows Update is broken, this style of manual installation will succeed. The MSU is smart enough to "gate" inappropriate files. If you download the "wrong" MSU, it'll tell you to "take a hike". So you don't normally have to worry about damaging something. I've never had to do Flash manually on 10, so I don't know whether it takes both or not. It should, since IE11 is available as both x86 and x64 on an x64 machine, and I cannot imagine the executable being smart enough to use x86 for both or something. If your system is x86, then only the x86 one would install. ******* This is to show the plug-in is part of the browser. http://www.zdnet.com/article/protect...rnet-explorer/ "Beginning with Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 8 and continuing with Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1 and now in Windows 10, Microsoft has built Adobe's Flash Player directly into the browser." ******* After installation of 26.0.0.137, you can test it here. The current version should be reported. The table on this page, shows all the possible ways of Flash being installed into a system. This page mis-behaves a bit if you're using FlashBlock, so don't despair. On a barn with all the doors open, it works... http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/about/ Windows Internet Explorer - ActiveX 26.0.0.137 --- "older" IE Internet Explorer (embedded - Windows 8.1) - ActiveX 26.0.0.137 --- "newer" IE Edge (embedded - Windows 10) - ActiveX 26.0.0.137 Firefox - NPAPI 26.0.0.137 Chrome (embedded) - PPAPI 26.0.0.137 Opera, Chromium-based browsers - PPAPI 26.0.0.137 ******* You can also run that link *before* the install, and verify you are using an older version. http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/about/ ******* If your Windows Update was healthy, this wouldn't happen. The KB4025376 would already be in your history, and listed as installed. If, somehow, you'd turned on that ZDNET "ActiveX filter" thing, then I suppose it would be throwing banners all over the place. That's not something I've ever bothered with (because I don't use IE).
