In news
cheryl had this to say:
My reply is at the bottom of your sent message: i accidently clicked open in ms-dos mode when I shut down my computer. How can I get it back to open in windows/ Please help Cheryl, You might try a 95, 98, or ME group. This is XP. g Anyhow, if you're at the C: prompt try "cd windows" and you should then see a bunch of stuff. If you do, it's been a while, then you should be able to either type "win" or just exit and restart it. Err... It's been a LONG time so I'd really recommend that you ask in a non-XP group as there isn't DOS included with XP. Galen -- "But there are always some lunatics about. Cheryl -First let me apologize for the sarcasm (rudeness) expressed by some
"experts" who respond to "please help" requests. Second - you need to provide more detail e.g. "i accidently clicked open in ms-dos mode when I shut down my computer" - exactly what did you "click"- Clicked open and shut down are at odds. When you attempt to start Windows what shows on the screen - does it just show "C:\" which you are referring to as DOS mode? -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AL(KB3U) & Darlene Romanosky N. This lady really has a mighty big chip on her shoulder. She is sarcastic and
picks up on trivial inaccuracies without offering even the slightest level of help to folks who ask questions. She should remember people who post are not newsgroup junkies, they neither know or care about ettiquette, but just want a simple solution to what might be their first ever computer problem. Miss P should lighten up and concentrate on being a useful contributer or expect posts like this. If you dish it out you should also be able to take it! Chelsea |

At least Miss P. Tick has the common courtesy to quote the thread she is responding to. As it stands, your post is like a fart in the wind...no one knows where it came from. Bobby Well you are entitled to your opinion, but as my reply was part of a sub thread directly linked to the original comments of Miss Perspicacia Tick, I would have thought that that anyone with even the most modest amount of common sense would have known what I was referring too. I suspect you knew what I was talking about but you saw a chance to jump in and add what you thought was a clever comment. I personally think the practice of repeating the contents of previous post within a thread is just a waste of bandwidth. People who really want to help will read the thread starting at the beginning. I normally respond on Expert Exchange where the rudeness that seems to happen here is more or less absence-that might be because its a subscription service and the more moronic contigents cannot post, but Bobby when I see you provide a technical response to a question, even if its wrong, I will start to respect your views. What you obviously don't know, is that this newsgroup is replicated over THOUSANDS of servers throughout the entire world, and because of that there may be timing differences, lost posts etc etc. Also, if someone sees your post as the first post in the thread, (which happens quite often), as you didn't quote the post you were replying to, he wouldn't have a clue what you are on about. It is Usenet custom and convention, to quote the post you are replying to. Have a look here for more info: http://alt-usage-english.org/posting_quotes.html |
