If you are sure your copy is legal it might be worth hitting the
"activate windows" button from Program files/accessories/system tools.

the start menu, I presume the fact that I don't _have_ an "activate
windows" option under .../accessories/system tools confirms that my
Windows is genuine? (I have no reason to believe otherwise; nice to be
reassured though.)

laptop and it was an option in programs/accessories/system tools. When
I open it I get a message that I am already activated.
I am not sure why you don't have that unless it is one of those Dells
with a generic activation someone spoke of earlier here. (or a bootleg
copy).

It's a Toshiba that I bought with 7-32 Home Premium already installed;
running MGADiag as suggested by Paul says it is genuine.

I thought we were talking about XP.

How to get rid of the greyed out activate windows? This pops every week at different times of the day. Windows is activated in settings. I am not a computer whiz. Just an old lady. Needs to be explain in easy to understand terms how to get rid of this nuisance.

I sorry for posting here. This was a serious question. I realize now I posted in the wrong group. I don't have windows xp any longer. Thank you for answering back.

Oops, sorry. Maybe that's why I haven't got that option! Sorry again;
wrong newsgroup. (FWIW, MGADiag seems to run fine in 7.)
