Default CD-ROM causes random errors

My computer has recently had a massive crash and the
only solution was to format the drive. But now after formatting
and installing XP pro every cd I try to install always fails.
The errors are nearly always "filename is corrupted or damaged"
I have tried using another drive but it also cause the exact same problems.
I dont think I was infected by a virus because I had the latest in norton
anti-virus.
But I suppose its still possible. Any help on the matter would be
apprieciated as I
have a computer with windows but can not install any extra programs.
