Default Delayed Write Failed error patch

Ian, I am having the same problem with a 80 GB, external
hard drive. The "Delayed write failed" pop up has me
stumped. I have yet to find a solve. The delayed write
error is the cause for locking up my ext hard drive and
sometimes my computer for lengths on end. If you find a
final resolve, I could use the help.

I believe I have correctly diagnosed the source of
the "Delayed Write Failed" errors I get when performing
file operations on a networked USB drive. Event log
entries match those in KBA 321733.

I'm not clear on how to get the hotfix, though. I can't
believe I have to pay for Microsoft Tech assistance to

get
this fix.

There is a "workaround" involving a Registry edit. I

can
do that, but is it the right way to solve the problem?
what is the downside? does the hotfix make additional
changes?

Ian
