Default Ethernet Card!!!

I bought a starter kit from PC World to connect my pc to
my son's pc. I am running Windows XP and my son Windows
ME. I put 1 card in my pc and it found the hardware but
it said that it could not install because the data is
invalid? I tried the same card in my sons pc and it
worked fine and installed itself. Is there something
wrong with my PC as the cards work fine in the other pc?
Do I have to change settings? I know the PCI slots are
working because I tried my modem in them all and they all
worked? Please Help!!! We want to play games!!

Hello,

Try downloading a driver off of the internet for your specific network card
model. Do a search on google.com for the with the model # and look for the
MFG's website. Then try installing it again use the drivers that you
download.

It's a registry protection prob in XP.

You have to do this to fix it.

Go to run. Type regedit

And go here.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\PCI

Find your network card (on the left-hand side)

When you find it, highlight the entry/right mouse button/permissions. And
tick Full Control.

Click on OK. Quit regedit. Then reboot.

This will do the same thing (invalid data error), everytime you install a
PCI.

Until you reformat. I had the same prob, until I
reformatted.
