Override system file protection
I'm having some problems with a USB flash drive and my
theory is that it may be that a newer USB driver loaded with an add on USB card is to blame. But I can't seem to go back to the original drivers for if I try to copy the old drivers into the system32/drivers directory, Windows automatically restores the originals presumably as part of its protection against accidental deletion of system files. I can't do a driver update through CP as although I have the original driver files from a windows cab file (e.g. usbport.sys, usbhub.sys), I don't have the .inf file which the update driver process would look for (or rather I don't know where the .inf file corresponding to the original version of the drivers would be). So, is is possible to tell Windows not to automatically restore the driver files so that I can try the original versions that are in SP1 (.1106 versus .1243 which I currently have). Andy |

Have you tried just rolling back the driver?
